  1. A pallet (sometimes called a skid) is a flat transport structure designed to support a variety of goods in a stable fashion while being lifted by any mobile forklift, pallet jack, or other jacking devices. The goods are placed on top of the pallet, and can be secured to it by straps or stretch-wrapped plastic film.   2. Wooden pallets are more affordable, easier to customize and easier to repair/reuse. Although plastic pallets may boast of non-infestation, fluctuations in the international price of oil from which plastic is derived and developments in wood treatments have made wooden pallets as competitive and compliant against infestation problems.

  3. TAWI primarily uses three wood species: Batino (Alstonia macrophylla Wall), Basyad (Canarium luzonicum Blume.) and Gmelina (Gmelina Hainanensis Oliver). Other species can be arranged per customer requirement.  

  4. It is advisable to lease or rent pallets if the company will use pallets in the long-term with a reusable supply, while benefiting annual cash flow. It is advisable to buy pallets if the company will use expendable (one-time) pallets (e.g. export) or if the pallet requirement is very small.

  5. Yes. Our pallet specialists can design pallets specific to your needs.

  6. A pallet's life expectancy is determined by its usage. It can range from 6 months to 5 years, depending on mobility of pallets.

  7. TAWI uses two types of chemicals, TimberGuard and Spik 'n Span. Timberguard is a Permethrin-based insecticide applied on wood to combat wood borers, termites and other insects. Spik 'n Span is a Propiconazole-based emulsion that combats molds.  

  8. Vacuum Pressure Treatment is a method of application of chemicals that guarantees high penetration of chemicals in wooden pallets. Vacuum Pressure Treatment is a more effective application compared to dipping application that only reaches the surface of the wood. Dipping can not guarantee against infestation and/or molds when the chemical washes off the surface.

  9. Every pallets has a maximum weight capacity depending on the design. Always advise your pallet maker your weight requirements in order to match the pallet design. Pallets should be handled with jacklifts carefully in order to prevent breakage. Treated pallets, especially heat treated or kiln dried pallets, should not be exposed to external elements.

  10. A wooden pallet service provider should be knowledgeable on pallet designs and treatments that will best match your needs. A good wooden pallet service provider should be flexible to your needs as a client and should have a sustainable raw materials supply.

  11. Lead time will depend on the volume and type of pallets ordered, ranging from 15 to 30 days. Wooden pallets that require imported wood species will have a longer lead time.

  12. A phytosanitary certificate is a certificate issued by the Bureau of Plant Industry that signifiies compliance with ISPM 15, an international document endorsed by the International Plant Protection Convention that regulates treatment of wood packaging for exports and imports.
